Who uses our Success Centers?

Our students are all adult learners looking to improve their literacy, math and problem solving skills. Here’s what some have to say:

Our Success Centers are here to help you meet your goals. All it takes is three steps to get started.

  2. Attend an information meeting and take a test so together, we can create a learning plan just for you.

Luis's Story English and Math got Luis on the road.

Luis came to The Literacy Council to improve his English language skills, attending a beginning ESL class while holding down a third shift job. Luis’ goal was to become a truck driver. The CareerLink offers a Commercial Driver’s License class in Spanish and English, and Luis needed bilingual instruction. To qualify for the training, Luis would need to pass a test that he failed on the first attempt. Luis needed to continue to work on his English, but he also needed to concentrate on math and vocabulary to pass the test. The Literacy Council teacher and Luis set up extra time to prepare him to retake the test that would allow him entry into the CDL class, and in January, Luis passed the entrance test. He improved his math skills 2 grade levels in just a few months. Today, he is enrolled in the bi-lingual CDL class at The Lebanon CareerLink, and he will soon graduate. He is doing well in class and is on his way to achieving his goal.
