Education is the foundation for success. Not everyone has the opportunity to get a basic education. Literacy & Learning Success Centers are places where people can get a second chance at an education.

Did you know…

Individuals participating in Adult Basic Education:

  • Show a dramatic increase in income over time, especially those participating in 100 learning hours or more.
  • Are more likely to obtain a high school equivalency credential.
  • Are more likely to pursue secondary education and receive credits than nonparticipants.
  • Are more likely to develop improved literacy proficiency.

Dennis's Story A student’s journey at The Literacy Council is determined by his or her goals and needs.

Dennis found himself unemployed in his fifties. He worked as a laborer until his employer's business folded. He needed a job, but finding one was difficult because of low skills and no high school diploma. He enrolled in the Senior Community Service Employment Program. He was referred to The Literacy Council to improve his skills so that he could get a job. He worked on computer literacy, basic skills and developed a resume. Dennis was able to land a job and continues to work full time. He is relieved and grateful to be working. Dennis has not given up on his goal to get his high school diploma and he continues to study for the test.
