The Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon has historically incorporated civics education into basic literacy curriculum for both native and non-native speakers of English. Understanding civics and the role it plays in the lives of individuals, the community and the country is of critical importance and directly connected to growth as a worker, family member and community member. Incorporating civics education into adult basic literacy is one example of our mission to provide opportunities for: Success through lifelong learning and learning for life.

An important component of civics education is teaching students about the voting system in the United States and helping them find the resources they need to become registered voters—and citizens with a voice. Helping our students Learn the importance of their vote, Register to vote, cast their Vote, and have their voice Count, is one of the most powerful forms of education we can provide our adult learners.
